Type Locality and Naming

It was distinguished in 1936 by G.A. Dutkevich and M.I. Shabalkin.

Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of black slate-like bituminous fusulinid limestones of about 800 m thickness.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

They conformably overlie the Lower Permian Zulumart Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the "silver slates" of the Pamir horizon.

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Karakulsky district in the valleys of the Balyandkinskaya and Zulumart rivers.

Fossils

The Balyandkinskaya limestones everywhere is saturated with remnants of fusulinids of the Murghab horizon. The most complete list is provided by E. Ya. Leven (1967): Polydiexodina afghanensis Thomps., Neoschwagerina schuberti Thomps., N. margaritae Depr., N. cf. katoi Oz., Verbeekina verbeeki (Gein.), and others.
